Rotator Cuff Injuries in Falkirk
Shoulder pain that lingers, catches when you reach, or wakes you at night can be a sign of a rotator cuff problem. Left alone, these injuries have a tendency to linger, so it helps to get the right support early.
What is the rotator cuff?
The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and their tendons that hold your upper arm bone securely in the shoulder socket and let you lift and rotate your arm. Overuse, repetitive lifting, a fall, sport, or simply years of tight, stressed muscles can leave the area irritated, tight or strained.
Common signs
Pain or aching at the top or front of the shoulder, sometimes spreading down the upper arm
Difficulty lifting your arm, reaching overhead, or putting on a jacket
Pain when lifting children or carrying bags
Pain or discomfort when lying on the affected side at night
A feeling of weakness or stiffness in the shoulder
How I can help
After a full assessment of the shoulder and the muscles around it, treatment can include Neuromuscular Therapy and Trigger Point Dry Needling. These approaches can help ease muscle tension and pain, improve movement and support your recovery. The right combination depends on you, and I will explain what I find and what I recommend.
When to seek urgent medical advice
Please see your GP or call NHS 111 if you have sudden severe pain after a fall or injury, cannot lift your arm at all, or have numbness or tingling down the arm. Call 999 straight away if shoulder or arm pain comes with chest pain, breathlessness or sweating. If in doubt, get it checked first.
